We are happy to provide an update to our last post regarding the Wolf Centre at Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve! On Mother’s Day, May 8, the staff discovered that alpha female Luna had given birth to a beautiful brown-furred pup! The team gave it a quick de-worming, but Luna was very anxious to get back to her little one, so staff opted to skip sexing the pup and leave it a mystery for when the little one grows up. Pups usually begin to appear in the observation area for the first time in mid to late June. Something to look forward to with great anticipation!
Changing gears, this post will highlight Sir Sam’s Ski / Ride. Why feature a ski resort at this time of year, you ask? Because like many of the attractions in the beautiful Haliburton Highlands, Sir Sam’s is a four seasons destination! The hill offers 100 acres / 23 km of hiking/biking trails winding over and around unique Canadian shield terrain, traversing open meadow, hardwood forest, and ancient rock outcroppings. The hill features a walk-on, walk-off “Time Tunnel” carpet lift perfect for novice riders and families. Access to the hiking/riding trail network opens Friday, May 20, with weekend lift-service riding starting a month later on Saturday, July 2, 2022.
Sir Sam’s offers a large selection of rental bicycles and helmets for your convenience, so you can book in advance to ensure the availability of a properly-sized bike. Then you can safely enjoy the excitement and freedom of trail riding at its finest.
If you prefer to travel on foot rather than bike, slow it down and enjoy the quiet contemplation of one of Haliburton’s favourite hikes, or hit the trail at a run, and let the elevation give you a real workout. The hike/run trail includes 4km of dedicated foot trail traversing classic Highlands terrain and offers spectacular views. This trail is rated moderate and winds its way up to the top of the hill through hardwood forests and fields. Once at the top, take in the panoramic views over Eagle and Moose Lakes before working your way back down. Walk softly, and you’ll be sure to catch a glimpse of one or more of the many woodland creatures who call the hill their home: deer, fox, turkeys, chipmunks, and more.
All that fresh air will no doubt leave you hungry and thirsty, and the new dining experience in the chalet, Rhubarb’s on the Hill, has got you covered! Now you can enjoy a delicious meal or snack after your ride or hike, and enjoy a libation, choosing from an excellent selection of beverages on offer from local breweries as well as the barista coffee bar.
If you are a fan of hiking or biking, now you’ll have even more reason to call your MLS real estate agent and book a day of showings of the fabulous houses for sale in Haliburton and the gorgeous Haliburton waterfront cottages being offered on the local real estate market at this time! Haliburton real estate is beckoning you to come home to stay and play!
